Joel Oesch, MDiv, holds a PhD from Concordia Seminary and is a graduate of Yale University.  He is Director of the Graduate Programs in Theology at Concordia University Irvine (CUI).  He is the Executive Director of the Crosswise Institute at CUI, which endeavors to engage high school students in meaningful dialogue on contemporary cultural issues, such as transhumanism, that challenge their worldview and that calls them from comfort to something risky, but rewarding.
“Transhumanism has nothing to do with your race or gender identity, at least not directly. Rather, the term reflects the human desire to transcend its current condition both individually and socially, most notably to rise above the limitations of our physical selves. Transhumanism is a movement of people committed to using technology to further the human race in profound ways. In most iterations, Transhumanism is viewed as the next great step of human evolution. Homo sapiens has evolved into a wholly new species, Homo technicus.”

Sunday School Teacher Training @9 am to Noon
New, current and prospective Sunday School teachers are urged to join in a renewing morning of preparation for teaching their classes.
All congregation members who are homeschooling, parenting, or work with children are also invited to participate; it’s quite possible you’ll pick up a few insights for how to educate your children as well.
Pastor Stroud will lead the training event, speaking on spiritual development. Tim Galligar will lead a section on motivation, engagement and presenting topics in an engaging and memorable way. Delores Stroud will share strategies on dealing with developmental and behavioral issues.
Plan now to participate on Saturday, August 26, from 9:00 to noon. Donuts and coffee will be provided during our break time, but anyone who’d like to bring something to share around the tables is welcome to do so.
