Parish Nurse Health Note for February 5, 2017

Today I will be offering blood pressure checks between services.  February is always a good time to get back into the habit of knowing your numbers and getting started on your healthy heart program.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”  This makes it crystal clear as to our responsibility to make sure we are doing everything within our power to make certain we are caring for our earthly body.

In searching scripture for Bible verses that discuss the heart, I was amazed at the number I found.  It became quite clear that the condition of our heart is so very important in our walk with the Lord.

I am sure you have heard about the silent killer—HEART DISEASE.  In youth we are certain we are immune to that, but the research over decades has shown that setting healthy lifestyle goals can make a huge difference in our longevity.

I urge you to take time today to have your blood pressure checked and establish a baseline number that gives you an idea of your lifestyle impact on your body.  From this point forward, we can work together to set goals for a healthy lifestyle that will help you achieve whole health—body ~ mind ~ spirit.

We are one month away from the beginning of Lent, and I am hoping to see us all begin a road to a healthy lifestyle, knowing our numbers, and working toward a healthier lifestyle as we begin our Lenten journey.  Ash Wednesday is March 1!

Walk in faith and health this week, knowing our God is with you in all you do.
